Meet Court McGee: Why 'The Crusher' Is Leading Our Launch

Short answer: Court "The Crusher" McGee is a Utah-born pro MMA fighter who retired in October 2026 after a 25-fight run on the sport's biggest stage. He has been sober since April 2006 and founded The McGee Project in 2015 to bring addiction-recovery education to schools, prisons and youth facilities. He's the first fighter backing MMA Mattress.

Every brand needs a face. We wanted ours to belong to someone whose story is about more than wins and losses. That person is Court McGee.

Who Court McGee is

Court was born in Ogden, Utah, and grew up wrestling. He placed at the state tournament for Layton High School before he ever stepped into a cage. Before fighting took over his life, he worked as a commercial plumber. That's a job that teaches you to show up early, get dirty and finish what you started.

He fought professionally starting in 2007, built his record on regional cards, and won Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010. That win opened the door to the sport's biggest stage, where he went on to compete for more than fifteen years.

A long career, finished on his own terms

Court retired in October 2026 after a 25-fight career at the top level of the sport, with his final bout in Salt Lake City in front of a home crowd. His professional MMA record finished at 22–15. Fighters know how rare it is to compete that long at that level, through injuries, surgeries and comebacks, and to walk away on your own schedule.

People who follow the sport know him for pace and toughness. He was a welterweight who kept coming forward and never made a fight easy for anyone.

20 years of sobriety

Court's story doesn't start in a gym. In his early twenties he struggled with addiction, and in 2005 he survived an overdose. He has been sober since April 2006, which means more than 20 years of choosing recovery every single day.

He has never hidden that part of his life. He talks about it openly because he knows someone in the room needs to hear that it's possible to come back.

The McGee Project

In 2015, Court founded The McGee Project to turn his story into something useful for other people. The project focuses on education about addiction, recovery, positive decisions and goal-setting.

Speaking in schools and juvenile facilities

Through The McGee Project, Court speaks at high schools, universities, prisons and youth detention centers. The message is simple and honest: addiction doesn't care who you are, recovery is real, and your past doesn't have to decide your future.

That kind of work doesn't come with a belt or a bonus check. It's done because it matters. That's a big part of why we wanted Court at the front of this brand.

Why he's backing MMA Mattress

MMA Mattress is built on a simple idea: fans get great gear, and the people who make the sport get support. Court has spent two decades living a disciplined life, and he knows what it took to keep training through a long career, including the recovery side nobody sees on fight night.

When you see Court's name on our site, it means he's part of the brand. It doesn't mean any league or promotion endorses us. MMA Mattress is an independent retailer.
